Children's Miracle Network
At the 1986 National Convention, the Fraternity adopted Children's Miracle
Network (CMN) as its second national philanthropy. CMN's annual telethon,
the Children's Miracle Network Telethon, has only one goal-- to improve
the quality of life for children. Phi Mu Fraternity raised more than a
quarter of a million dollars last year for CMN across the country. The
money raised through chapter fund-raisers goes directly to the local hospital
in the chapter's area. All money raised in the Houston area goes directly
to support Hermann Children's Hospital in the Houston Medical Center.
Founded by Osmond Foundation, a non-profit organization, the Telethon
represents more than 160 specialized hospitals for children.
The History of Phi Mu Foundation
Approved at the 1956 National Convention, Phi Mu Foundation was established
to provide members a means by which to make tax-deductible gifts to benefit
Phi Mu, its members and chapters. The incorporation was accomplished on
February 26, 1957. By 1959 Phi Mu Foundation was granted 501(c)(3) status
by the Internal Revenue Service and could accept tax exempt gifts from
members and friends.
Today more than 13,000 collegians and alumnae are supporting members of
the Phi Mu Foundation. Upon application, Phi Mu Foundation grants funds
to the Fraternity for education, leadership, citizenship, philanthropic
and scholastic purposes.
Commemorating our 40th Anniversary in 1997, Phi Mu Foundation encourages
individuals and chapters to Celebrate Phi Mu with tax-deductible gifts.
Your support ensures a bright future for Phi Mu.
Goals of Phi Mu Foundation
Education: Journey of a Woman, Gender Gap, career networking, academic
excellence, educational articles and conducting overseas travel tours
illustrate ways the Foundation assists the Fraternity and our membership
through educational programs.
Leadership: Sending collegians to LeaderShape Institute, providing funding
for the Adviser's Forum, recognizing outstanding leadership in Phi Programming
and Philanthropy, and partial funding of training and salaries for Chapter
Consultants who spend a portion of their time developing leadership and
citizenship skills demonstrates how Phi Mu Foundation supports our membership's
leadership endeavors.
Citizenship: Through Journey of a Woman our members are taught how to
identify values, make decisions, set goals, manage time, develop healthy
relationships, and meet challenges through the voyage from collegiate
years to young adult, middle and mature years.
Scholarship: Each year Phi Mu Foundation offers over $95,000 in scholarships
and loans to collegians and alumnae. Programs designed to raise grade
point averages, grants for career programs, scholarship charms for high
scholastic achievement, funding for educational speakers, and grants to
chapter libraries are further examples of how Phi Mu Foundation recognizes
and encourages academic achievement.
Philanthropy: The philanthropic objectives of Phi Mu Fraternity shall
concern health care and education, with particular emphasis on health
issues specific to women and/or children.
